Fairbanks

All of these pictures are from the first two and a half weeks we lived in Fairbanks with Dick and Linda. Fairbanks is mostly rolling hills with TONS of trees and then the mountains are in the distance. On a clear day you can see Mt. McKinley which is about 150 miles from Fairbanks, so you can just see the top of it.Town of Fairbanks below the mountain range.

When we stayed with the Eickman's we helped them build a greenhouse in their garden.

Sandhill cranes come and land in their yard quite often in the summer.

Finished project :)

Mountains on the outskirts of Fairbanks using the zoom :)
Only can see these mountains every once in a while as a lot of the time they are covered by smoke. Fires started last year and stayed smoldering under the snow all winter and then flared up again this summer.
This is what you can see of Mt. McKinley from Fairbanks, still looks huge and this is just the top!

Dan and Bev Spears who live right across the road from the Eickman's.

Dick and Linda Eickman :)

Headed for Anchorage, AK on June 8th to see if we could find jobs down there as didn't have any luck in Fairbanks.

An abandoned hotel that someone built to resemble an igloo on the road halfway between Fairbanks and Anchorage. We went thru Glitter Gluch where Denali and Mt. McKinley are but it was way to cloudy to see Mt. McKinley...only 12 percent of tourists in the summer are able to see Mt. McKinley but people can see it almost every day in the winter.

Made it to Anchorage, it is about 6 hours from Fairbanks.

Crazy to think of how far they travel two times a year..and not driving either!! Can't wait to see you in two days, Mindi Kay! The only thing better would be that Raymon would be with you!!! Love you both!! Dad and Mom

  3. I am soooo happy to know you have a blog! I loved taking a look-see at all your pictures! Delton was impressed with the bear pix,... and thought you should have skinned the dead one! :)
I thought the wolves would sound scarier than they did, it was more of sad plaintive sound! Pretty scenery! I love the pictures with people in them, though. Nice greenhouse...is it for flowers or veggies or both? Keep adding pix...it's so fun to see Alaska through your blog!!

  6. dear Fair~McKinley views,

Great to see more pix, esp around Fairbanks as we did not get up there. Both those couples names and faces look familiar, but can't remember if we met them. I really think we did meet the Spears tho. (1983 in Anchorage once)

    love,
The unforgetable Alaska landscapes still 'call us back there'
